Christmas decor you can do yourself is usually pretty basic stuff but
it's a great way to have some holiday cheer without paying someone else to make it
or buying the standard low-end Christmas decor ideas. The important thing to
remember is that you are supposed to have fun decorating your home for the holidays
with your family. There are rules! You begin with the Christmas holiday decorations
that you already have and think about how you can use them differently than you did
last year.
It's always a good idea to put your plan on paper before you dig out the ladders
and the Christmas decor on hand. If you're like me, you'll have a lot of spots
where you want to have something special while most of the house will not see a
huge amount of effort.
Gather Pine Cones and Boughs for Visual and Aromatic Pleasure
You can go on an outing to a local woods where there are plenty of pine trees
and see how many pine cones you can find. Gather up about 10 to 20 pine cones and
bring them home to be used for making Christmas ornaments. Use some ribbon and the
spray on snow to make the wintry. Place them in small groupings and hang display
them around the house both inside and outside.
There are many fond memories that come to mind of Christmas decor from years
gone by when I smell pine. Make some memories for your family with Christmas decor
you can do yourself. Encourage them to join in.

If you grabbed some pine bows while on your trip to the woods you can use them
and a couple of the pine cones to make a wreath. All you need to do is take a heavy
metal wire hanger you get from the dry cleaners. Take twist ties and hot glue to
secure the pine bows and pine cones to the coat hanger making sure that the hook is
at the top of the wreath.
Add Ribbons and Bows to Brighten up the Greens
You can use some ribbon to make a bow for the wreath and to add some extra flash
to the wreath. This can be hung on your door to greet guests to your home. If you
have a porch with posts and railings you can use pine bows and wire to create
garland to wrap around the posts and railings. Adding some of the pine cones you
collected and some ribbon to it along the way will add to the festive look. This is
all very inexpensive to do and you and your family will have a lot of fun doing it
together.
Homemade Garland Needs Extra Care!
Christmas decorating ideas are everywhere! You can apply the same ideas of using
the homemade garland inside your home as well. Care should be used when using fresh
garland, as it will dry out, so you will not want to have any open flame near it.
If your decorating plans include the use of candles that you will want to go with
artificial garland. This will allow you to carry the decorating idea form outside
into the house without the fire risk.

Homemade Christmas Decorations
You can spend an evening around the dinning table with your handy craft supplies
and make some homemade Christmas decor ornaments for the tree or other areas of the
house. This is something that is always fun for the kids and you can create some
wonderful keepsakes that will find their way onto the tree year after year. Making
your own decorations is a wonderful Christmas holiday tradition and it goes a long
way towards reducing that holiday stress.
