Christmas Home Decorating
|
Well it's time again for Christmas home decorating and while we all look forward to seeing the things other
people do, we're often hard-pressed to make the magic happen for ourselves.
You see, Christmas is that time that comes once per year and many people tend to go overboard when it comes to
decorating. There is no such thing in the eyes of many as too excessive or gawdy. And those who start last are
usually not in the race for any neighborhood Christmas home decorating contests or shows.
Every year it seems like the lights and sounds on some Chirstmas home decorating displays grow larger and more
complex. Some are awe inspiring while others are funny. It's nice to see that people try to make a celebration in
their own way.
The problem is that most of us can't keep up with the newest, latest, and greatest in Christmas home decorating.
But for those of us who are decorating impaired there should be no worries. Christmas is first and foremost a
celebration of good will and not an annual competition for who can make the most outlandish display or have the
highest utility bill!
Let's get back to where we enjoy decorating our homes for Christmas because we have a passion for the holiday of
lights; not a competition.
The critical thing to do is to choose Christmas decorations that have meaning for you and your family. It
doesn't have to be one thing or another to be special Christmas home decorating.
The meaning of Christmas is very personal and different to every person that celebrates the holiday. We may have
a general idea of what Christmas is all about but we don't all celebrate this holiday the same way.
For examply, if the nativity scene is central to your Christmas celebration then you should include it in your
Christmas home decorating ideas. Don't feel like it has to be there if you have a more secular than religious view
of the holiday.
Angels are a similar personal choice but while there are fewer of us view angels as religious, we still enjoy
them in our Christmas home decorating every year.
If you go with your preferences and convictions and you may find Christmas home decorating is
more of a joy than a chore. At least that's how it works for me.
I am a huge fan of Christmas home decorating! I love the blinking lights and the beauty of the greenery mixed
with bright shades of red and gold. I love the fact that 200 houses can be decorated for Christmas inside and out
and no two look the same.
I love the fact that for one entire month out of the year children can enjoy the bright lights and the cheery
characters that light up the cold wintry rooftops and yards all over the world.
If you are lost when it comes to decorating ideas of your own, my biggest suggestion is to pick what you like
most about Christmas and create your Christmas home decorating style around that one thing.
As the years go by and inspiration strikes, you may find more things to like or dislike about Christmas and your
decorations will change as well. Perhaps the coolest thing about decorating your home for Christmas is that nothing
is set in stone. You can do the same thing every year or try something new.
Some great ideas or themes for non-religious Christmas home decorating include the following:
- snow globes
- cherubs
- angels
- Santa Claus
- St. Nicholas
- Father Christmas
- snowmen
- birds
- candles
- wreathes
- stockings
This is not an exhaustive list of Christmas home decorating themes but it is a place to start when simple ideas
are needed.
If you want to create a truly unique style of Christmas home decorating this year, try a homemade Christmas.
This means that all the ornaments, centerpieces, wreaths, garlands, and decorations are made by hand rather than
purchased whole. You might be able to get the entire family involved and everyone can enjoy the process of creating
your very own Christmas decorations and putting them up for the holiday season.
There are so many wonderful ideas, tips, and tricks when it comes to decorating your home for Christmas that it
is incredibly difficult to point to one specific idea and say 'this is it'. But when you find a theme that speaks
to your heart -- this is what Christmas is all about.
Well that and spending time with those who mean the most to you and feeling generous to the world at large.
Christmas home decorating is just a little way to reach out and let people know that you enjoy Christmas and you
don't mind sharing that sentiment.
