Cookie gift baskets became a great gift giving option for me a few years back. I
started out making them with my own cookies and cute baskets I found at local
sales.
As I get older and the number of people on my shopping list increases each year,
I find myself looking for alternatives to the old standbys of clothes, music, and
gadgets for the younger set espeically. Cookie gift baskets with a big variety of
treats really work well for most families.

How to Make a Christmas Cookie Gift Basket - Instruction
from eHow will give you some great tips.
Every year we make Christmas cookie gift baskets to send out to
friends and family. It takes some time to figure out which cookies we want to make
and last year we made 22 different kinds of cookies.
The easiest to work with are sugar cookies and they stay nice
looking for a long time too. We use a nice stiff icing for the sugar cookies in our
cookie gift baskets and separate the different kinds of cookies with baggies tied
with a nice curly ribbon.
If we find some nice baskets at rummage sales, garage sales, flea
markets, thrift stores and other places where we can get them for 25 ¢ up to a
couple of dollars at most, we'll use them as part of the Christmas cookie gift
baskets. Otherwise we wrap up some decent boxes and tie them nicely with
ribbons.
Last year we figured out that our cost per recipient was about $15
each including all the ingredients and packaging materials. Our time wasn't part of
the equation.
